What's Your Favorite Sheen?

The sheen you choose can dramatically change the overall look and feel of your hardwood floors. From soft and natural to bold and reflective, each finish offers its own type and levels of maintenance.

Oil-Based Vs. Water-Based Polyurethane:

Oil-Based Polyurethane:

  • More budget-friendly.
  • Rich, warm amber tone.
  • Enhances natural wood grain.
  • Requires fewer coats.
  • Longer dry times and stronger odor.

Typical Application: 2 Coats

Water-Based Polyurethane:

  • Fast dry times.
  • Low odor & low VOCs.
  • Crystal clear finish.
  • Will not yellow as much over time.
  • Ideal for light, gray, white, or pastel colored floors.

Typical Application: 3 Coats

Important To Know:

  • Higher gloss levels tend to show scratches, scuffs, and dust more easily.
  • For pastel, whitewashed, or light-toned floors, we typically recommend water-based polyurethane to prevent ambling over time.

No matter your style, we'll help you choose the perfect finish for your home and lifestyle.
